It would be an absolute nightmare if something went terribly wrong 1 month after launch because I am not experienced enough with hosting and maintaining servers. This may seem like a cop out to some but I'm just one guy and I'd much rather put my time towards making a cool game and hope that players will be fine with this primitive and ugly way of multiplayer. The worst thing that could happen is something like a DDOS attack or somehow the servers go down and then everyone who purchased the game can't play.

I would love to run my own servers so people wouldn't have to hassle with port forwarding but. Hey all! Let me preface this with saying that I absolutely agree that Port forwarding and using software such as hamachi is a stupid hassle and there are a million better ways of playing multiplayer.
